Motorola Planning to Set up Plant in INDIA.
Motorola, who recently launched its 3rd gen. of Moto G series, is evaluating options to set up a manufacturing facility in India to cash in on the burgeoning demand for smartphones in the country.
“Evaluation is going on… We will have news soon,” Motorola Senior Marketing Director Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific Marcus Frost told PTI when asked whether the company is considering setting up a production unit in India. Further details are not revealed for the time being. If Motorola sets up its plant in India then it would make perfect sense for Motorola as the majority of sales for its budget-friendly smartphones, predominantly the Moto E and Moto G, come from this region. Motorola, had sold over three million units in the country till last year. This would enable the Lenovo-owned company to save money when it comes to importing the devices.
According to the reports from research firm CMR, India is one the fastest growing smartphone markets globally, 19.5 million smartphones were shipped in India in the March 2015 quarter. The Make in India campaign is also promoting companies to set up plants in India.
Right now nothing is confirmed but it seems to be a feasible option if Motorola wants to cut costs and widen its profit margins.
