Google Maps v9.13 rolls out today with many new features and few tweaks.
The update includes a couple of useful shortcuts that deserve a look.
The page on Google Play stores points out following changes made in this new update:
- See where you’re going before you leave with a Street View thumbnail on the map (for address search or tap and hold on map).
- Easily add a missing business to the map from the sidebar
- Bug Fixes
Street View Thumbnails
In this new update a shortcut has been added for street view, through which you can directly access the street view. Let me explain: suppose you are traveling and with the help of Google Maps you’re looking up for your destination, now in between of that a pin comes up which might be extensively photographed by one of Google’s Street View cars, a thumbnail will show up in the lower left corner of the screen. Tapping it will open the street view image. This is far better than the precious version where users had to first tapping on the pin and then tapping the header image, the thumbnail saves us from screen change.
Add a Place
If you are aware about a new shop or something that Google Maps is still not knowing. Open the navigation drawer and tap on ‘Add a missing business’ near the bottom of the list. This is something new by Google Maps and is the part of new update. This method is far more better and more convenient alternative of placing a pin than the previous method where users had to either with an address or had to long-press tapping on that location, then hitting on the not-so-noticeable ‘Add a missing place’ option at the very bottom.
The “Add a missing business” was not delivered with v9.13, but actually turned on by a server-side switch. Don’t be too surprised if you have v9.12 (or maybe lower) and you see this in the navigation drawer.
